Our story:
Turning data into impact.
Reducing CO₂ emissions is one of the biggest challenges across industries. The real estate sector is no exception. We see this as our responsibility and opportunity: Understanding and using the energy data generated in every building is KUGU's basic idea.
KUGU was founded in 2018 by Christopher von Gumppenberg and Leopold Kuttner, inspired by experiences with remote reading of electricity and gas meters and the associated potential of energy data. Since September 2023, Christopher von Gumppenberg and Niko Mikac have formed the new dual leadership and are jointly shaping the development of KUGU.
Today, our products create transparency, efficiency and automation in tens of thousands of buildings — from apartment buildings to urban quarters. But our ambitions go further: We want to become Europe's leading provider of smart building efficiency and actively drive forward the decarbonization of the real estate sector.

Christopher von Gumppenberg
Christopher von Gumppenberg has over 10 years of international experience in the industrial and real estate sector. After working for Fraunhofer Austria and SWJ Engineering, he managed complex M&A and restructuring projects in China at Jebsen Capital.
In 2018, he founded KUGU with the aim of using technical and economic levers for decarbonization. His career combines strategic depth with profound operational experience, particularly in dealing with complex transformation processes.
Niko Mikac
Niko Mikac spent over 15 years in management positions at adidas, Wayfair and Homeday, with responsibility for operations, analytics and digital scaling. He knows both corporate structures and fast-growing tech companies and has successfully implemented data-driven efficiency programs several times. International experience and in-depth process knowledge make him an expert for sustainable growth.
At KUGU, he brings this experience to the development and expansion of sustainable structures.
