KUGU sichert sich 8,5 Millionen Euro für die Dekarbonisierung der Immobilienbranche

In November 2021, KUGU was awarded the Gewobag Innovation Prize for its holistic solution for energy data management. One year after the start of the collaboration, both companies can look back on a successful first year of cooperation. KUGU shows what has happened in the past twelve months, how existing challenges have been overcome and new processes have been established.
With the aim of your own CO2-To improve balance by processing and analyzing data that has already been collected, Gewobag launched an innovation competition in 2021. The Berlin-based housing company was faced with the challenge of ensuring a uniform, consolidated and reliable flow of data from basements to the data platform for more than 1,000 heating systems of various building types and types of systems. To solve this task, they were looking for a suitable partner who would help them gain this data sovereignty and make the operation of their own heating systems cheaper and more efficient.
From more than 40 applications, five innovative ideas made it to the final of the competition. In the end, KUGU prevailed over its competitors with its digital, modular platform in terms of degree of innovation, feasibility and profitability. Manufacturer-independent, technical solutions paired with lean corporate structures, which ensure the necessary flexibility and solution orientation, convinced Gewobag and chose KUGU. It was the start of a joint pilot project for more sustainable building management.
In particular, the two KUGU modules were used to gain data sovereignty Digital boiler room and Submetering for use. The module Digital boiler room stands for the digitization of metering technology for heating systems in buildings and the associated insight into system efficiency. By flexibly adapting the infrastructure, KUGU has also been able to create a hardware setup in the Gewobag boiler rooms that reliably sends data to existing systems. Around 30 Gewobag boiler rooms are now connected, which is one of several important components for transparent handling of property consumption data.
That too Submetering was recently used in Gewobag's existing programs on a property. The module depicts the independent billing of heating and water costs with a high degree of automation and thus makes it possible to open up new sources of revenue and improve service quality. In addition to this additional income, the module offers great benefits for housing companies with independence from external measurement service providers and compliance with legal regulations through HKVO and consumption information during the year.
“We can look back on a successful year of cooperation. We have been able to overcome the biggest hurdles together and are now continuously collecting energy data from the boiler rooms. We are looking forward to the coming year, when energy and CO2 can also be saved measurably.” says KUGU managing director Christopher von Gumppenberg.
The next step is to assess the success of the project using specific figures. Gewobag has already taken a big step closer to its goal of improving its own CO2 balance.
